WIREFRAMING

Interaction model and applications for a large, interactive public screen.

Project: frog’s original Beacon concept for NYC was acquired by LQD, a venture aimed at making the Connected City a reality. LQD and frog ventures designed the final product Palo, an evolved urban communications hub. This project was the interface design phase for the hardware.

My role and responsibilities: I was involved for 4 weeks at the beginning of the program, helped create the high-level architecture and interaction model. I also helped prep the team for the challenges of designing for public spaces and ergonomics for a wide variety of users. We quickly gathered research around ergonomics, environmental and hardware considerations/limitations, best practice examples etc. By introducing an ecosystem and multi-device design approach, I simplified the device experience and prioritized functionality around appropriate touchpoints such as mobile apps and web.

Designs have been incorporated into the physical product and launched. Later, LQD was bought by Verizon to extend their IoT capabilities.

Usability testing, design and development support for an in-station mobile app in the UK and European market.

Project: A fueling app for Exxons’ Esso brand for the UK market, where queueing at petrol stations is a common daily pain point. frog Munich and London offices worked on phase 1 product discovery and strategy. This project is the 2nd phase of work where we expanded the key flows into a design system and supported development efforts for iOS and Android apps.

Process: We started with a round of concept evaluation and usability testing in the UK. After completing design enhancements and further development, we conducted a second study to validate the enhancements as well as test new flows. We also supported ongoing development efforts, taking part in daily scrum calls and communicating with development and BA teams. The other track of work was supporting design team on the client side working simultaneously.

My role and responsibilities: As the only designer on the project from frog, I led both rounds of user testing, synthesized findings and worked on design improvements with the larger team. I helped expand the initial foundational designs into a system that could cover all use cases for development. Also supported design and functionality QA, provided design direction to client design and development teams. This was a 4 month effort where I was running the day-to-day relationship with product owners and design teams.

PRODUCT IN THE MARKET

Android and iOS apps are on the UK app stores. Since release Exxon also added new functionality such as PayPal payment options but kept the design intent and system.

End-to-end design for a new robotic restaurant’s mobile app.

Project: As part of a frog ventures program, frog and Momentum Machines (startup from SF) worked together to create the mobile ordering app for the innovative, human-less burger joint experience called Creator. Momentum wanted to give users a unique app to create a precise and experimental burger. Our challenge was to make it lovable and easy to use. The restaurant soft-launched in SF, mobile app is in development. View Creator website for details of the machine and restaurant.

Process: We started with market research, continued to product definition and strategy. We quickly jumped into interaction modeling and prototypes of the UI. Ran three design sprints to define key app views and ordering flows. We often colocated and held multiple working sessions with the CEO and stakeholders of Momentum to enable quick decisions.

My roles and responsibilities: As the senior interaction designer, I worked in close collaboration with a visual design lead, a strategist and a program manager to define the product strategy and concept. When we added one more visual designer and interaction designer to the program, I helped plan team’s day-to-day work. One of my achievements on the project was guiding Momentum and our internal team through the product design process. I took the initial client brief and broke it down to functionality areas, helped prioritize for the MVP and the design sprint planning. I also gathered final requirements and wrote user stories in collaboration with the Momentum team.
